HOW TO SELL ON ASOS MARKETPLACE
Here’s four simple steps on getting your items listed on ASOS Marketplace.
Step 1: Set up a Business PayPal account
If you don't already have a Business PayPal account, you will need one before selling on the ASOS Marketplace. You’ll need to ensure that your account status is fully verified as requirements can vary by country (call PayPal if you’re not sure). You’ll also need to ensure your account is able to automatically accept GBP (‘multicurrency’) either as a GBP balance or payment conversion.
Step 2: Apply to become a boutique
To become a boutique on ASOS Marketplace you must be selling either your own designs or a true vintage collection (Y2K or older). We are selective about the kind of boutiques that can sell on our platform so that we always have the finest curation of independent and vintage fashion for our customers. If you think your boutique will fit our criteria, submit an application and we’ll get a back to you within three working days.
There’s no guarantee that you’ll be successful. However, if your application is not approved but you believe you have the potential to become a boutique, our seller support team can advise you on how to get things right.
Step 3: Create your boutique
If your application is accepted (congrats!), the next step is creating your boutique storefront. This is fully editable and will enable you to build your own branded area with ASOS Marketplace. Customisable areas include your brand bio, storefront image, logo and you can also visual merchandise the layout of your products. If you get stuck at any point, the seller support team will be on hand to help you.
Your brand bio will help you get some traffic from search engines to your boutique, so make sure you call out key products, any big-name vintage brands you stock and your brand’s USP (basically anything someone might search for that you specialise in). Don’t forget to link your storefront to your social media channels, too!
Step 4: List your items
Now it’s time to start listing your items for sale! You can start with as little as five listings. Five images are permitted per product listing, and you must ensure that your images adhere to our photography guidelines. For clothing, the hero picture must be shot on a model, but for accessories all of the pictures can be flatlays showing the product only.
Words are also important – you need to include a concise but informative title and description that tells customers what they need to know. You should also consider searchability of your items here; make sure you are including keywords that people would search for. Then all you need to do is price your item and set it live. When it sells, you’ll get an email, then you can post your item to its new home!
TIPS AND ADVICE FOR SELLING ON ASOS MARKETPLACE
Tip 1: Follow the photography rules
If you want to get your clothing and accessories noticed by our customers, you need to have great pictures and it’s worth investing in this. This could mean hiring a model and photographer, but it will be worth it. It’s also important that you follow our photography guidelines, which include only using images that you have the rights to.
Tip 2: Words are important, too!
The words accompanying your listing are as important as the images of your products. This starts with your product title, which will help you get found when customers search through our site or via a search engine. For example, ‘Vintage Nike logo embroidered sweatshirt’ is more likely to get your item noticed than ‘Green sweatshirt’.
The description is also important for selling your clothing and accessories. This isn’t about inserting as many buzzwords as you can think of, but informing potential customers of key features like material, size and condition. Just think, what would I want to know?
Tip 3: Get your pricing right
Take the time to see how much similar items are being sold for on our site. Of course, you want to make a profit, but we know our customers are savvy and won’t pay over the odds for an item that someone else is selling for less. If you are a more premium brand, then make this clear so our customers understand what they’re getting for the higher price.
Tip 4: Great customer service is a must
As you’re operating under the ASOS brand, we want to ensure all of our boutiques maintain a high standard of customer service at all times. Your customer service must meet or exceed the customer service levels set out in our Boutique Standards Guide.
Tip 5: Keep your customers happy with speedy delivery
Shop around for shipping carriers so you can offer the best value and delivery times for your customers. Once you’ve sold an item (yay!), items need to be delivered in their described condition and in a timely fashion.
As you’re a boutique on ASOS Marketplace, customers will have a certain expectation when it comes to how items are packaged, so make sure you take care to package up your items nicely. Little touches like an accompanying note or wrapping your items in tissue paper can help build up positive feedback and a loyal following for your boutique on our site.
