From the Travelling the 53 Stations series. - This image is made in the yose-e technique ("assembled picture"), with a huge monster cat created using nine assorted cats. - The mouth is made of the cat collar and the collar bells make up the huge spooky eyes. This is a depiction of the Monster Cat of Okazaki, that was haunting the temple near Okazaki along the Tokaido Road, waiting to attack young women who came to visit the temple - a yokai monster story made into a famous kabuki play. - A nicely detailed reporter/cross body bag, that would easily fit a tablet or books & study notes or few every day's essentials!
