Boxed Mug Set Japanese Ukiyo-e Art Hiroshige Kawaii Cute Cup
UKIYO-E ART JAPANESE WOODBLOCK PRINT BOXED MUG Three gorgeous artworks by by Hiroshige Utagawa, from the "One Hundred Famous Views of Edo" series, 1856-8. - Printed on a high-quality ceramic mug and presented in a matching box with traditional Japanese "kanoko" all-over pattern and calligraphy of the artist's name and titles of the artworks. 1. "Minowa, Kanasugi, Mikawashima": Two red-crowned cranes in a marsh, in a scene looking from Minowa and Kanasugi toward Mikawashima (three different villages northwest of the Yoshiwara pleasure quarters). 2. "Horikiri Iris Garden" ("Horikiri no Hanashobu"): The village of Horikiri was known for producing flowers for the Edo market, including the most famous variety - a type of iris known as "hanashobu". On the print, in the immediate foreground there are three beautifully detailed irises. In the distance, the sightseers from Edo can be seen admiring the blossoms. Hiroshige noted that so many lovely women from Edo came to view the blossoms that "it was difficult to distinguish which were the real flowers" 3. "Suijin Shrine and Massaki on the Sumida River" ("Sumidagawa Suijin no mori Massaki"): The flowering branches of the cherry tree frame the view on the shrine (lower right edge), the green earth, the river and Mount Tsukuba, its base surrounded by clouds or mist. - Reproduced from an archive image, respectfully and lovingly restored and enhanced digitally, to remove the non-artistic blemishes and colour fading. - 11 oz/320ml Mug.
