Japanese Ukiyo-e Art Print Poster Woodblock Wall Art Samurai
UKIYO-E JAPANESE WOODBLOCK ART PRINT "Honjo Shigenaga Parrying an Exploding Shell" by Utagawa Kuniyoshi, ca. 1848 - Honjo Shigenaga was a Japanese samurai (1540-1614), who served Uesugi clan and fought many battles. Among many things that he was famous for, he was particularly known as the wielder of the famous blade Honjo Masamune, a katana representing the Shogunate during most of the Tokugawa Era (a National Treasure sword that went missing at the end of World War II - but that's a different fascinating story!) In this epic print we see him blocking an exploding shell with a large iron shield at the battle of Mt. Saijo, during the fourth Battle of Kawanakajima, in 1561. - - Reproduced from an archive image, respectfully and lovingly restored and enhanced digitally, to remove the non-artistic blemishes and colour fading. - A3 print, 297mm x 420mm. (Interior images are shown for styling and illustrative purposes only, not to be used as a precise scale guide.
